Downton Abbey Is Soon to Be a Movie—Here’s Why You Should Watch It!
After the beloved PBS Masterpiece Downton Abbey wrapped in December 2015, rumors swirled about a feature-length movie.
The writer of the six-year running series, Julian Fellowes, so hotly anticipated a feature film that he wrote the script before a studio picked it up.
Well, we’re happy to announce that Fellowes will now be working in partnership with Carnival Films to shoot the much talked about Downton movie.
While there is no release date set as of yet, the studio has confirmed that the show will indeed go on for Downton Abbey.
So why might you want to watch this new Downton Film? Actress Dame Maggie Smith, who plays Lady Violet, had this to say about it, “I just think it’s squeezing it dry, do you know what I mean? I don’t know what it could possibly be.”
However, some fans feel like there are a few loose ends that need to be tied up.
For example, what about Branson and his new lady friend? With her catching the proverbial bouquet at the wedding, it seems there were serious hints to a possible marriage in their future.
Mr. Mason and Mrs. Patmore also had serious hints at a future relationship that weren’t satisfied by the series finale. Other developments like Mary having the promise of a new baby on the way and Anna having her own also weren’t fully realized. We must know what those adorable kids look like now!
Some fans also wished that Edith’s former lover/newspaper man would have been found clawing at the church doors on her wedding day, instead of being curiously swept under the rug as some sort of unsolved mystery. Maybe the new film will reveal a different fate?
Many of us would have rather seen Thomas end the sour character turned villain we knew him as for so many years. Perhaps the film will bring that out of him once again.
While there is no concrete date set for the film, most reports indicate it will be released before the end of the year or spring 2018 at the latest.
Don’t hold your breath, but the full-length Downton Abbey film is coming… just not that soon.
